Rob,

I already work with a few different machine shops in various parts of the US, but for one particular item, I thought it would be easier to work with a local shop. The part is still in the design stage, so there is no formal drawing yet, and I need the shop to assist me with optimizing it. It is for this reason that I also want to get my own machines -- so that I can prototype without going back and forth in the mail for ages. I'm not looking to get a $100k machine, but something in the $10k range which I've already picked out and know will meet my needs.
