Thanks JP - sounded pretty scientific to me!

However, my issue is not necessarily calibrating the new dipstick, but rather how the casing fits into the pan.

I presume there is some sort of seal that may (or may not) need replacing.

I don't want to rip the old casing out to find that I have a major hunt trying to find a part that I'm not too sure how to describe to a supplier.

Minor job - that may prove to be a major headache!
