Well, if you are able to pull back on the gas pedal, and that alleviates th eproblem, I'd say you probably have a linkage issue. My SPF 1670 probably has somewhat different linkage since it is newer, so I can't help you on specifics, but... I'd say that's your problem.

Get it good and hot and stop the car and get out. Pop the hood and rev it up by hand w/ the linkage. If it sticks open, see if you can find the hang-up.
