Mechanical. It works for a few miles - not enough to see if I am using the correct gear for my rear end ratio and tire size - then the gear strips. It doesn't look like the driven gear is engaging enough.

Do you know if the gears with more teeth are physically larger? If they are, I might need to use a larger gear even though the speedo won't be correct.
