You should be fine. My EM has the vent at the top of the filler neck. Gas goes in just fine.

Myself, I think it's unemployed Santa's helpers who are sitting on the tip of the nozzle. They have cell phones and call the pump operator when your tank is full. There have been alot of layoffs at the north pole since Santa outsourced toy production to China.
