If it's your ring/pinion going it will "Clunk" while rolling everytime you get on or off the gas.
I replaced an SPF diff around christmas for someone with this exact problem. As it gets worse the clunk will get louder.
SPF uses the Standard Ford 8.8 IRS unit available from any Ford Dealer.
