Standard (OEM Production) only had the single fill plug on the LH side of the gear carrier. Oil was drained by sucking it out of the hole or removing the gear carrier from the axle housing and allowing it to pour into a pan. A wise option if you have the housing out of the car would be to weld bungs on the top and bottom of the housing, it makes oil changing a lot easier.
