Did this on my Unique and my ERA with head studs on. Removed trans cross member bolts, removed headers, removed shifter/linkage and hoses, removed motor mount bolts, used an engine lift/tilter and twisted the motor just enough each direction to clear the footboxes. Or, the swivel socket trick sort of works with lots of patience and persistence. It can be done.

Otherwise, its almost worth pulling it out if you don't like puzzles.
