Well done mate.

Its best to pay the full tote on the stamp duty.

You may remember that Boyd Coddington in the States was just raided and all computers and paperwoprk was seized.

It appears that some people (now I'm not saying Boyd) had been understating the stamp duty.

Then again, Boyd did have over 20 armed agents raid his premises. So he must be a bad fellow...

OK - here's the latest here from Vicroads.

It is requirement by law to advertise both a vehicle registration or engine number when selling a car.

You sell a Cobra for $40,000 and the purchaser declares he paid $25,000 and pays the appropriate stamps duty of $40 per $1,000.
$1,000.

He has understated the Stamp duty by $600. Taking $15,000 off the actual paid price..

You guessed it, the Vicroads staff have realised this and are now recording the adds in magazines, newspapers etc. and comparing advertised price and declared price.

They log the advertised price and vehicle registration number.

If there is a big discrepancy they contact the seller when the paperwork arrives with less than their calculation on stamp duty asking why and what was the selling price. A Statutory declarartion is included.

They are very aware of values and have done some training on this.

This has been happening in a number of car yards with yard owners and purchasers being picked up.

For what its worth. You will shortly see a memo going out to caryards etc. It only took so long before the recording of registrations in adds was going to be matched with stamp duty.

And us dumb buggers thought you had to put the registration number in the add to prevent theft..

Be warned..
