As I remember the 406 came with a 276° cam .The 410 hp 427 came with 310° cam and 425 hp 427 had 324°cam as described from Ford .Then my favorite cam, I actually have this cam new ,in the Ford tube in the basement . I Bought another in 1970 at a dealership in Lawton OK _" For trailer car only" 330° with115° overlap and .600" lift C8AX-6250-D .
In 1968 I had a 55 Ford 2dr post ,I had a 330° cam in a 406+.040" with a single 600 cfm four barrel carb in that 55 Ford .Came on like someone flipped a switch at 3000 rpm . It kept bending Crane push rods Then I took it to around 8400 rpm . The engine didn't survive. Then I tried a 324 ° cam in another 406 with 1020 cfm tripower that didn't resemble the rocket.
Then in 1969 put together a 63 1/2 Gallaxy with a 428 cu in engine- 276° cam , solid shell lifters, adjustable rockers, C6 trans 370 rear gear. I was drafted in Dec of 69.
I got married in 73 ,What I thought was my last hur-ra was to finish the 428. I bought a Holman and Moody 882 super high torque cam with H&M shell kifters and pushrods .On a stand it, sounded so qiuck .You moved the throttle and the engine was instantly at that rpm. I had it on a trailer made from a car front frame with electric, a small fuel tank ,radiator ,and headers. I use to start and rev it up a few times shutt it down ,close the garrage door and watch people up and down the block come out their back doors. After moving to Washington state I sold the 428 engine in 76 thinking lifes funpart was over .A guy came down fron Everett in a tall red Ford stepside pickup, said it was his wifes truck. He bought the 428 cu in engine from me . Did he get a deal? I also supplied that 276° cam as an alternative. After a few weeks he called me asking about that special cam bolt .He had miss placed that bolt and I told him to go to Ford and buy a new one. That was the last I herd from him.I could go on for hours describing all the special things I had on or done to that engine.Man did he get a deal!
