No. The 289 cars, as well as the Daytona Coupes all used Borg Warner T-10 4-speeds. At some point, and I don't know when that was, but the very late 289 Comp. Cars would have had the Ford Toploader and the 427 car had, intially, the TL 28 spline.
While the Grand Sport was probably capable of 180, it was a very unstable ground vehicle and I doubt that anyone ever carried that speed for any length of time.
Rob Walton, who used to own one of them, told me at Elkhart Lake, that the car was pretty unstable at 150 mph. He subsequently sold it. Beautiful car but they were no match for the Daytona Coupe.
