Default Better late than never.....

I assume you're talking about the reverse gear engagement T handle, which on mine is non-functional but there for the original look.

I can take mine apart as follows:
1 - unscrew the ball off the top
2 - there's a pin down inside the shaft that sticks through the T-bar to keep if from sliding out the sides
3 - Use a magnet retriever, or just give the t-bar a sharp pop upward and watch out for the pin to fly out the top of the shaft
4 - slide the t-bar out sideways
5 - put on the boot and reverse to re-assemble
