It happened to me once. My wife topped off the brake master cylinder with power steering fluid about 10 years ago while I was out of the country. I realized what happened when I asked her to show me which bottle she used when I got home several weeks later. I drained the fluid, flushed the system, replaced a few seals, refilled and bled the brakes and it was good to go. The car did not have ABS though...
