On head bolts (we use ARP) I use teflon thread seal on all bolts (even the ones going into blind holes) to maintain consistency in torque effort. We do it in 3 steps and take the top bolts to 80 and the bottoms to 70. Since doing this method, I've yet to have had a problem with a blown headgasket (which 302's are famous for)..
