Default Nationals classes

The structure of classes at the nationals or probably any cobra event will always be a difficult issue. The main problem is that these are all individualy constructed vehicles, and with there being multiple manufacturers of the base car, whom may suggest that certain components, usually taken from production vehicles, be used to complete it, and the individual constructors whom for various reasons may choose to complete it with different components, be it production or after market, does not set a precedent for a "standard" vehicle.

For many years the show n shine classes were debated and the structure continuosly altered to find a happy medium to give some parity between high budget shop built and lower budget home built cars. This debate still continues.

What I think they are trying to achieve this time, is to
open up another class aimed at a lot of the cars built through the '90's with std low output 5ltr or 5ltr gas engines, although with the chev LS engines seemingly qualifying for this class, the parity has again gone out the window.

I also don't believe rim size should be a limiting factor in class grading, as we are now practicaly forced to use larger rims as the availability of a decent 15" street tyre is practically nil. I use Bridgestone RE 710 but they are only available in 255/60, not quite the ideal dimension, but they work quite good on the track and are great in wet weather.

Even though this change will be the cause of more confusion and angst, I think it is good that the organisers are being proactive in trying to keep life in the event and not let it stagnate. They are not unreasonable guys and I think they would welcome input into setting up this class.

Unfortunatly I probably won't be entering this year, but will be there with bells on. See you all there.
