No... I always try to purge the cooler but really it would be fine if you didn't. All synthetic manufacturers say the same thing it's fine to drain the oil oil and replace it with synthetic.

If you are ever in a pinch mixing synthetic with parafin based oil is not going to hurt your engine either. No synthetic manufacturer encourages it, but it will get you to your next oil change in a pinch.

What brand did you decide to go with?
