I think you are getting nervous about nothing. 2x4 will not contribute to drivability problems. They are tunable to a great degree. For instance, I experimented with running on 8 venturis at idle and with 4. Four worked better. I would say the combination is drivable.

Probably what has a greater impact is that most 2x4 TP intakes are single-plane. I ran one of these and I loved it. Yes, a Cobra is a vehicle 1000 lbs lighter. But, IMO, that setup is quite doable in the Fairlane.

Its not like you want to idle around all day, right? If not, I would go for it.
