Bob it is an MGA not an mgb if my memory serves me correct. The last one we built was with solid 3/4 stock, bearing at either end with an aluminum tube for the column. all parts were borgeson except the aluminum tube and bearings.They do have a web site we were able to weld a quick release at the steering wheel end and use borgeson adapters and splined shafts at the other all the way to a manual mustang rack. On the originals it uses an mg rack and the a column doesnt have the key and directional stuff at the other {early style} is just a steal tube with bushings at either end and a 3/4 shaft with splines on the bottom and threads for a bolt at the wheel end. The directional is still the early volkswagon. I hope this helps with out being to long winded.
