Depends on how much money/strength you want to throw at it. Currie Enterprises will shorten the axles and tubes for you. Just send them your housing. They will do almost anything and their prices are reasonable. They are really into 8.8's because of the stuff they're doing for the off-road guys.

I happen to think that their 8.8 with the 9" axles/tubes/bearings conversion is perfect for Cobras. I got one only 50" wide. I am having my Vintage Wheels widened 2" from 9 1/2" to 11 1/2". I'll post pics when done.
