Just a reminder for anyone planning to drive up to the Run To The Pines show on Saturday morning:
There has always been a parade through Pinetop that usually starts around 10 am Saturday morning and this parade results in the main drag (Hwy 260) through Pinetop being blocked off for a couple of hours.
What this means is a very long, slow, single file detour around 260 that can easily overheat even the coolest running driver. It also can mean an entrant to the show won't arrive early enough to get in on all the voting and will likely miss out on many voting ballots. (every entrant gets a ballot to vote for other entrants cars and many complete their voting by noon Saturday).
So, as a spectator, you might want to either get to the show before the Pinetop parade starts or plan on arriving after the parade is over (noonish).
For entrants, I'd recommend getting to the grass as early as possible because even the line of entry cars can get quite long and slow moving.
Other concerns while driving up here are:
Washed out rocks/boulders through both the Salt River Canyon (Hwy 60) and the Mogollon Rim east of Payson (Hwy 260). Also a couple of places nearer to Show Low on 60 where the road has been widened recently.
Deer and elk on either highway.
Empty Krispy Kreme boxes - particularly in the Lakeside area.
Welcome to the White Mountains, Drive safe and enjoy the show.
