Steve,
I never do any RPM dumps as there is no traction at all. I think most of the abuse would be from all the years of downshifting in corners. I have always eased off in 1st gear and then after it is moving started giving it the gas and even then with the tires I now have, it will break loose in a flash. Wasn't quite so bad back years ago when I had the racing tires on it. But I don't drag race and don't dump the clutch at all. Only thing I could find in the bottom of the bell housing when I took the plate off was just black dust and dirt from the clutch. Of course, I can't see the disk to tell how badly it is burned. This clutch has stood up well as I put it in back in 1997, so I guess it could just be all the wear. No squeal like a throw out bearing going away, but I always replace them when I replace a clutch anyway. Also pedal still feels good. If I felt like it, I would get it out and take it for a drive and look for it to slip under hard pull now that it has did this. But the way I am feeling, the last thing that I want to do is start tearing into the darn car. Everything on mine is easy to do, especially when it is on the ramps as they are a perfect height for removing trannys and such. I do need a transmission jack though if I did it by myself. You want another car, come get it.
At 4:45 this morning it was 82 here.
