Yes I have an in line pump. I know nothing about in tank pumps but the ones Ive seen out of mustangs have a screen filter covering the intake as I recall. Spend some time and think about the safest rout for the lines. Keep them well away from headers and if possible set it up so if you do get a leak it won't drip on to them either.
Something else I did was got an inertia switch from a junk yard and wired it into the fuel pump circut. I mounted the switch out of the way in the trunk.
