If you look at the stock pump setup there is a return circuit.
There are 3 fittings on the top. One is the feed another is the return and the 3rd is a vint. It has a check valve in it so stop fuel running out if the car rolls over.
There is a regulator built into the swirl pot part that the return line runs to. The fuel goes out of the outlet and into the filter I believe. Then there is a T fitting in the feed line and one side goes to the return connection on the pump setup ind into the regulator. The regulator bleeds any excess pressure off and feeds the fuel straight back to the swirl pot. Quite a neat setup really.
I reckon if you wanted to you you could run the stock pump as a full return setup and just not use the T piece and run a line back from the rails.
Boxhead will be able to tell you for certain how the connections go i.e where the filter fits in etc.
