Default very high fuel pressure

My Kirkham with SA 427 SO usually runs about 5-6 psi of fuel pressue with either the mech or e-pump (Holley "Red") and any combination. The other day while driving home in reg street traffic (25mph, stop lights, etc), I had to stop for a train and decided to shut the car off while waiting. I don't know the fuel pressure at that point, but it was hard to restart and when it did, the pressure was 12#!! The e-pump was off all of this time and I drove the next two miles home, where it took several minutes, even with the ignition off, to drop from 12 to zero. I haven't had a chance to gather more info, but it was a very hot day (92 °F) and my temp gauge read 100° C. This has never happend before, any ideas? (the pump is self regulated to 7#, but, as noted, it was off and upstream anyhow). thanx again. thanx steve meltzer "never enough time to do it right; always enough time to do it over"
