Permanent markers work pretty well especially if the lettering is inside. On the outside it might require touchup every six months on a daily driver. The swab that comes in a bottle of leather boot dye works very well too. For the fine stuff dip something smaller in the bottle. It is usually by Esquire and in the shoe polish lane at the supermarket.
