Great seeing you on Sat with the Great Mustached one.
When you say crimp tool I used an expensive crimp tool to crimp the insulated connectors on my last build. A good connection is difficult to do repeatedly. While building my GT, I continued Bob's method of soldering and heat shrink all connectors. You are assured a much more reliable connection. Takes a little more work, but you won't be plagued with a loose connections.
