Looks like I have some options to review.

Just a point of clarification: The $7600 quote did not include intake, carb, water pump, air cleaner, valve covers, harmonic balancer, flywheel (though the quote was for a balanced assembly). My surprise was that I was being quoted a price that I thought was more appropriate for a complete engine (see Keith Craft web site, and several others...).

In regard to building myself, I'd have to look at the accumulation of tools for degreeing the cam, installing cam bearings, et cetera.
