Cam selection is very important!!!!!! Many things influence the decision. I build a lot of muscle car and hot rod engines for people that go to shows and cruise nights. Here is what I like. 9.5 compression, 93 octane fuel 2000-2300 RPM cruise COMP CAMS 268H HIGH ENERGY with stock manifolds or a 270H MAGNUM with headers. Your problem is the T-5 has a low first gear and the overdrive might be a little too tall. 224@.050 duration is the most I recommend for a street driven car. Build it so you want to drive it everyday and wear the DAM thing out!!!! If your are using stock valve springs you do not have much clearence for a lot of valve lift. When I set up small block FORD heads I always leave .060 clearence between the retainer and seal and maximum lift and coil bind. This is VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!
GEAR RATIOS AND CAMSHAFTS are important for maximum enjoyment. I think your set up would be perfect for a wide ratio toploader and won't break like a T-5.
