Missing a critical component in that breakdown. Cost of rebuilding an original block\heads side oiler from scratch. My guess is you could spend $20K or so doing that with a reputable engine master (Gessford, KC, etc.), or far less depending on what needs to be done. 'Depending on what needs to be done' is the KEY!
I rebuilt my side oiler for about $4K including machine shop work and custom pistons. I did the labor myself, it was more of a 'freshen up' as opposed to a serious 'from scratch' rebuild which might require extensive machine shop work in some cases. Thus, a protentially 'big dollar' build.
VERY satisfied running an 'original' side oiler complete with iron 1964 High Riser heads. But hey, thats just what I wanted to do.
