Lucas L691/692 were also "original", though not used on S/C's and I believe all but the last handfull of COX prefixed 427's. AC Cars used them on thier "Sports 289" which was a norrow rear 427 body with a 289.
Besides the fact that the L542 is all red, only has one bulb, not E marked and totally unacceptable to rego authourities, I feel the L691/692 gives good light output for all those following you in traffic who may not be paying proper attention. But then the authourities don't like side pipes either.
I have followed Cobra's that have the smaller round glass lamps L488 or 594 and they are useless in the sun and barely visable at any other time but night.
