Default "Rebodied Crown"
Mantis,
In some states Crown chassied Cobras were considered "re-bodied vehicles" and only had to comply with emission levels of the year of the chassis or engine used, which ever the newer, so choice was fairly free. I don't believe Vic. was or is one of these, but I would certainly explore the option.

So as you see in other posts on current allowable engines, you may not be able to use the XR8 even if you wanted.
