Think Sal has made a few good points.

Probably won't matter down the road that the new GT500 was built on Fords assembly line like the later Shelbys of 69 and 70 were.

And...as he mentioned, the 2001 Bullitt mustang, which was what I purchased as my little slice of Ford history turned out to have a ton of cool factor built in but really lacked in the seat of the pants department.

While in Florida a few months back the wife and I rented the Shelby H #06H222 and after spending a week with and "enjoying" (thought about replacing the rear tires) for some 500 miles it quickly reminded me why I evently let the Bullitt go...Lots of cool factor, but not enough go.

So,based on seat time with those two slighty tuned Mustangs I would go for the GT500 over the Shelby GT...IF you plan on driving it even if that drive time is limited.
