John, as simple as that sounds, it typically ends up looking like shiat. Or if you really take your time, it looks good for a few hundred miles then starts to break down.

There is also another source from some guy in Iceland that mixes up his own special batch. But I figured these young scientists are local and for $15 (with shipping) it was worth experimenting. This paint is truly designed to stick to rubber, so it should cover better than those paint pens and be more durable.
Even if the paint works, it still doesn't get me by the fact that the Goodyears are bias ply and non DOT. Their street manners won't mix well with my driving style and requirements.
