You're right...you really have to slip that clutch to get it going. They had 2.88's and close ratio transmissions. The MkII's had wide ratio transmissions which fixed the problem. When I had my MkI Tiger tranny rebuilt by David Kee I had it updated to a wide ratio. It makes a huge difference and makes the 2.88 gears ok.
