How I answered this question.

Forget T-5's out of any production cars. Particularly mid '80's cars. They have the wide ratio (3.31) gearset, and less torque capacity.

Get the SVO "Z" T-5 with the close ratio (2.95) gearset. I went one step further, bought the T-5 from Liberty Racing Transmissions (313) 278-4040, had it blueprinted and swapped the .68 OD gear for a .80.

Keep in mind that the weak link in your drivetrain is the trans, The only thing protecting it is a light car and street tires that will spin before damaging the trans. As a primarily street use car, the T-5 should be fine. For drag racing, I'd use a C4. For autocrossing, a toploader.

The bellhousing is specific for the T-5. Tremec uses a different one.
