Unhappy Side Pipe Rattle Woes

I have a 4 into 1 side pipes that slip onto the 4 header pipes just inside the exhaust opening. tabs are welded on one of the pipes, and a "bridge piece" is bolted to them to secure the assembly. I have tried about everything (copper RTV, aluminum foil, muffler bandage strips, duct tape, etc.) to quiet them down. All this stuff works for about a day or two, and then "blows out" I've thought about "screwing" all the pipes together with self tapping sheet metal screws, but that seems way too Mickey Mouse. Anybody have experience with this problem?
