Heber Report
I got back to East Bumscrew Mesa this morning just before 9 and the ride from Heber had been very comfortable. It was 90° in Payson at 8 o'clock and 97° at home. Don't know how cool it had been in Heber but felt like probably mid-60°s.
Ten Cobras, Bruce's beautiful '07 Shelby Mustang, a couple 'vettes and a "classic" Blazer did the parade.
Jim and Susan hosted the Friday night party and the Saturday morning breakfast, at Casa del Pink, and as always were most hospitable hosts. Most of us drove to Showlow for Saturday's lunch and then the Pinkster and I took the long way back by going through Snowflake. The lunch was better last year but the drive back to Heber was far better this time as I managed to keep the car on the pavement, the whole way.
Saturday night's fireworks were spectacular and I always wonder how such a small community can afford such extensive displays. The number of spectators for the parade continues to grow and the line of Cobras received many rounds of applause, mixed in with the requests for burnouts. We all, regretably, behaved ourselves, at least during the parade, so there was no repeat of the tragedy that happened a few weeks ago in KY or TN.
It appeared that a real good time was enjoyed by all and I, for one, made motel reservations again for next year. Youse guys with the excuses, just need to get the Right Mental Attitude, use lots of sunblock, and go up the mountain next year.
