Default Update on 511 Shelby...

I haven't posted here for a while, but you guys have answered some questions for me, so I thought I'd post an update on how the engine is running.

For those who don't know, my engine went in an old Ford truck, not a Cobra, but I lurk here for info.

At our little local track, here at 6600' above sea level, I made some all engine runs over the past month to get some tuning done. I left the mufflers on.

First passes were 8.1 at 86 in the 1/8. My truck is not really built for speed, so I limit it to the 1/8, mostly.

I did some tuning based on the data I collected and went back last Saturday to make some more runs. First run out of the box was a 7.73 at 93 in the 1/8. People were telling me that because of my frontal area, and because I run it in 4 wheel drive, that I wouldn't be able to convert my 1/8 mile times to 1/4 mile times mathematically and have it be accurate. So I ran as long as I dared and collected a 1000' time. I did the 1000' in 10.05 at 105mph. According to my acceleration slope it would have turned a 12.1 had I stayed in it.

The next pass I stayed in it again, but the day was hotter and I lost time. 7.89 at 88 MPH, and a 10.35 at 100mph in the 1000'. This time I cut right at the 1000' mark and coasted through the 1/4 at 12.81 at 79MPH. I had a goal of tuning this truck into the 12's. Looks like I need a new goal.

In a nutshell, this thing is making big power on the top end. My truck weighs 4,050lbs as it sits, and has the aerodynamics of a brick. Considering that it is giving away over 20% of it's horsepower to altitude, I am VERY happy.
