I remember getting a directive from the Forest Service HQ once about how much dynamite we were required to pack per horse or mule when traveling in grizzly areas during the winter. The dynamite was to be put in the chest cavity of any animal that died on the trip since, with the ground frozen, you couldn't dispose of them otherwise and "environmentally" you couldn't leave them for the bears...........always wondered if the pack animals realized what those boxes were for.... might explain why some took off when the chance arrived!
