I had the same issue on a 460 FE block. The problem was the heat soak issue. It would start again after a while, but not if I tried to start it hot. A heat shield helped a little, but I had to wrap the headers in insulation to effect it enough so I could drive it regularly. A new starter would work great for about 4-5 months and then the issue would be back.
