Cobra Roadster Auction Sale
The 289 Cobra Roadster sold quickly at the Mecum Auction for $600,000. The bidding started at $150,000 and got to $600,000 in probably less than two minutes. The car was an absolute #1. Some guy over the phone bought it. Was it you Ralph?
Other Shelby stuff went off. Probably the best buy was a 68 Shelby GT 500 at around $75,000 but it needed some work. The Shelby 66 GTH Hertz black and gold Mustang, got close to $150, 000 but didn't hit the reserve. A lot of the other Shelby stuff did not sell and will probably show up at Barrett Jackson this winter. Nice stuff but the prices are still really high for the quality rides.
A 69 GTO Ram Air IV convertible car went for $350,000. I must have missed something on that one. Superbirds and Daytona's went from $250,000 to almost $500,000. There were three Shelby Continuation Series cars by Legendary GT. Beautiful recreations of a 65 and 67 GT 350 and 500 Mustangs. The bidding got to $120,000 on basically a clone but registered by Shelby. They didn't hit the reserves which were around $140,000, for not the real thing mind you!!!!
It seemed only about 50% of the cars actually sold unless some people got them after they left the stage.
