Hell I owed California $2,000 set up a payment plan with them, it included interest. After not missing a payment for over 1/2 of the term, they put it on my credit as past due and delinquent. Even after they promised to remove it, they never did. I had to fight it with the credit bureaus to have it removed. I had to prove that I set up the payment plan and then I had to find (Luckily I kept them) every canceled check. The next month it would be back on the report and I would have to spend the next 3 getting it back off to go through it again. California Franchise Tax board gets no sympathy from me. But if someone who was as broke as I was for the last decade can find a way to pay off all tax and other debt, these people who don't pay what they owe, get even less sympathy.
