Paul, with silicone you can still pull it back off. That's the beauty of silicone, you can still remove stuff.

Although I don't imagine you would normally have to remove it, only if you need to repair something underneath.

Silicone is quick and easy, plus you can form the heatsheild material around fuel, brake lines etc.
