Default Bad Sportsmanship

I was watching the Colts-Chargers game over the weekend and they were giving awards to some kids who had tried out and had excelled at passing, kicking, in sort of a football camp sort of thing (I was only half paying attention to those details - perhaps someone could fill me in).
There was this 13 or 14 year old girl who had won in her age division and she was from New Hampshire. She was wearing a Patriots shirt (I think they all wore shirts of their home teams), and when they announced her name the entire stadium booed her.
Yeah, I get the rivalry between the Colts and the Pats, but there is a time and a place for it. I'd like to think that if the same girl showed up in Yankee pinstripes for a similar accomplishment at Fenway that she would be cheered, but I have to question it.
Is our culture really so lacking in class and honour that we need to boo a young girl for supporting her home team?
