Take the ball off and then loosen the set screw inside. The "T" reverse handle slides off then you can remove the boot. Reverse the order after you install the new boot.

I had the same "binding" problem when I switched to the Hurst stick. I used the leather boot from Cobra Valley and saved the rubber boot and Mustang reverse shifter and mount for later use if I want to switch back. Shifts a lot faster and smoother with the Hurst....although you don't have the originality look. I prefer the smoother shift.
