This is an example that the President, and past Presidents too don't really live in a real world. Most come from a silverspoon in the mouth. You can read all you want about sailing a stormy sea alone, but until you have been there it is not the same. You gain a whole new understanding of things when you have lived it.
As far as credit to the commanders. I do give them credit, and the people doing the hardwork out in the field. I believe the push should have been from the beginning. I also believe Bush tried to go in, and win a war on the cheap, and now he is paying for it. His father didn't go in, because they knew they couldn't control the Sectarian violence.
