Look, I feel as bad for the handicapped as anybody but I think it's gone a bit too far. Plus, I see people with handicapped plates park in non-handicapped spaces; taking MY space. I've also seen people with handicapped plates who are no more handicapped than me park in handicapped parking.
At a golf club I used to belong to we had to install handicapped bathrooms at the turn; forget that you had to step up to get through the door.
I'm dealing with building inspectors this week. Some of the regs are just plain ridiculous.
I've seen buildings with ground level entry in the front....no problem...but they have a back entrance that's 20 steps up. Sooooo, they have to spend tens of thousands on a three turn ramp. I mean why can't the handicapped person just go in the front????
