The so called "righteous" 9-11 hijackers were frequenting strip clubs, etc, here in the states. (so much for looking upon the face of a woman who is not your wife eh....the Taliban would be PISSED....)

I dated a girl who was Lebanese and had family there and had been there several times. (actually lived for a time). I've been in Kuwait and worked with Kuwaitis. All of them are just like everyone else. They're all just so scared of the religious gestapo that they put on this facade in order to maintain the status quo (and not get thrown in jail).

The key to success in "modernizing" Southeast Asia is separation of church and state (not easily done mind you). Until that happens, you'll constantly have turmoil between the traditions of Islam and the culture of the modern west. That is, unless you have a bunch of monarchs who welcome at least a little bit of western culture (aka United Arab Emirates).

The irony to this story is....probably every guy who arrested this man, his boss and most of his male employees (whoever can afford it) have mistresses and whores they frequent.

Societies who are so sexually repressed tend to have HUGE rates for sexual crimes and sexual violence. Much of that goes unreported (in those countries is even more shameful to admit you've been raped or you're "not pure" for your husband).

Countries where prostitution is legal tend to have much lower rates of rape and crimes like voyeurism (sp?) etc. than countries where it's prohibited. They also don't have huge sex trade issues...etc.
I think someone is confusing Southeast Asia with the Middle East.

A$$ time again.
