I think from what you say either is good, at this stage I am in the build process and its easy to weld a fitting into my unused tank, and go with the internal.

Regarding juice pull generally they are 300watt, but I have seen 500watt and someone in a corvette had a 1500watt heater, dont know much about current draw but the 300watt should be okay otherwise I guess they wouldnt make them!!!
