I used to have to unbolt the transmission from the bellhousing and remove the shifter completely and just stuff the transmission rearward wedging it between the tunnel and cross member. The tip of input is in close proximity to bellhousing. I then unbolted the bell housing haging it on trans input shaft. Then removing clutch and pressure plate. Next, I can then remove the bellhousing and then the transmission. Tight confines. I have since removed a portion of the top tunnel and have made an alluminum cover so I can have some help from above and won't have to remove the shifter each time.
And for starters I jack up the car enough to get four large jack stands on car-skates under the car because I may be here for a while.
